J3URHALIST ACCEPTS NOMINATION [Special to the ‘Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, .Inly 21. In response to requests from tho electors of Lyttelton. Mr M. E. Lyons has consented to accept nomination in tho interests of the Reform Party at tho General Election. Mr Lyons lias been agricultural editor of the ‘Sun’ since the inception of the paper twelve years ago, except for some three years’ absence at tho war. Ho has been identified with the administration ol many sporting bodies in Christchurch, particularly lawn tennis and swimming, and lias made a close study ol sociological and economic questions. At present he holds the position of president of the Christchurch Journalists’ Union. At the last General Election Mr R. Macartney, of Tai Tapu, contested the scat against the .sitting member (Mr J. M'Combs), and the Labor nominee gained the verdict with a majority of 139(3 votes. Mr Lyons, who is a young New Zealander, strongly advocates _ a union of the two dominant parties in New Zealand politics with a view to counteracting the forces of extreme Labor and Socialists. The Lyttelton Reform candidate is a fluent platform speaker, and has an export knowledge of tho primary industries of tho dominion.
