Loyal Dunedin Lodge met in tlio Stuart Street Hall on Thursday, N.G. Bro. 0. Kraft presiding. The members learned with regret of an accident to P.G. €. West, one of the most faithful workers, and a letter of sympathy was sent. During the evening a recognition of Anzac was made, the members standing before the roll of honor in silence after a short address on the subject by P.P.G.M. Bro. J. A. Robson. The. Past Grands of the lodge tendered a progressive euchre tournament to the lady friends of members, who turned out in good numbers. _ The first prizes were won by Mrs 0. Kraft and P.G. M‘Galium. Refreshments were served, and a pleasant evening dosed by thanks to the Past Grands for their generosity. Loyal (Javersham Lodge was presided over by N.G. Bro. E. W- Gilliand, the business being promptly dealt with. It was resolved to send a letter to Past Grands (,'. and P. Keadol expressing sympathy with them on the death of their mother. Clarke was introduced to the members, and had a hearty reception. Bro. Clarke responded in happy vein. This being the. nearest meeting to Anzac Day, a short memorial service was held in commemoration. P.P.G.M. Bro. E. A Black in an impressive address, reminded members of the worthy deeds of those v. hose names are recorded on the lodge’s roll of honor.' The symbols on the memorial tablet were luridly explained, and at the conclusion all present stood around the tablet in silence. Loyal Valley Lodge held the usual meeting on Monday, April 20, N.G. Bro. T. U ohen presiding over a .good attendance of members. After the routine business had been disposed of the question of obtaining a new merit board was discusisecl. and it was decided to obtain an estimate of the cost of such board to incorporate a memorial to Past Permanent Secretaries I). S. Munro and Past Treasurer J. W- Roberts. The card shield match against Dunedin Lodge was won i by default. During the progress of a [game of cards refreshments were served, and much enjoyed. to enter a team and start practice at once. It was agreed to entertain the kindred societies of Milton at a socie-l in a. month s time. An unusual number of Past Grands being in attendance, it was decided by them to tender a social evening on the next lodge night to the present officers and brethren in recognition of the good work they are carrying om N.G. Bro. B, Vcrcoe presided over a good attendance of members of the Loyal Cromwell Lodge on Friday last. P.G. Bro. A, Ree gave an interesting account of the recent district meeting held at Kalian gata, and expressed the gratitude of the delegates to the lodges and to the ladies, particularly of the Queen of Otago Lodge for the handsome manner in which they had entertained all in attendance. The lodge decided to take part officially in the Anzac Day memorial service. During the recess members were entertained by selections on the gramophone recently presented to the lodge as a result of the competition held throughout the district. Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge meeting on Tuesday, April 21, proved more than usually interesting. One candidate _ was initiated and one proposed. The business of the evening being the commemoration of Anzac, Per. Sec. Bro. Jas. Brown delivered an interesting address on the subject. In an eloquent manner Brn. Brown stressed the principles involving the liberties of the world that were at slake in the struggle, the noble resistance of Belgium, the heroism of the first small army. Anzac, while one of the darkest spots of the war, contained some of the brightest memories lor us, as well as some of the saddest. Anzac Day was one to remember with reverence. P.P.G.M. Bro. J. A. lUibsop followed, touching on various aspects of the war and dealing particularly with the campaign in South Africa. G.M. and D.I’.G.M. were formally welcomed. Per. Sec. Bro. Jas. Brown' presented the newly-elected D.I’.G.M., Bro. Geoff Clarke, with a. gold star in recognition of his attainment to distirct honors. Prov. G. Master Bro. Alleylie and the D.P.G.M. made telling speeches in response. It was resolved that the lodge present an enlarged photo of the delegates at the late district meeting to the Queen of Otago Lodge in recognition of the lodge’s splendid entertainment.
