HIGHER PRICES FIXED INCREASE OF FiVEPENCE PER BUSHEL [Pek United Press Association.’ ASHBURTON, April 24. Mr John Brown, president of the MidCanterbury Farmers’ Union, states that an increase of 5d per bushel for this season’s wheat was agreed upon at a conference it Wellington yesterday between representatives of the Farmers’ Union and the flourmillers, The prices, which came into force to-day, are as follow: New Price. The millers who attended the conference, according to Mr Brown, are prepared to lift all wheat from the paddocks within two months if necessary. Tho prices are guaranteed for at least two months. Nosworthy states in n) the wheat conference that the millers agreed to a readjustment of prices and to offer farmers 6s 8d for Tuscan, 6s lOd for Hunters, and 7s for Pearl, all milling wheat to be taken over within the next two months. The wheat growers’ representatives are to recommend strongly their branches to accept the offer. The millers determined on prices as follows£lß a ton for flour, f.0.b., south; not to exceed £8 a ton for bran, f.0.b., south; £9 for pollard, f.0.b., south. The duty on bran and pollard from Australia is to be reduced from £2 10s to £1 a ton, the millers to _ find cash for wheat from Australia to bridge the gap till next harvest, and the Government to purchase on their account.
