(Received January 29, at 12.30 p.m.) Sir Patrick Hastings,_ in opening the defence in the case of Homy Teuton, who is charged with having, between the years 1912 ami 1921, fraudulently converted to his own use certain property of the Fenton 'textile Association, of which ho is a director, amounting to over £240,000, said that Fenton, in 1919, was a millionaire, and he was now penniless. Every penny had gone to his creditors. Fenton might still bo rich if ho had sold the shares to the public, hut ho never sold a single, share. Ho simply opened a personal account months ago, instead of following the practice of signing tlio cheques ‘'John lonton, Limited. Nothing could bo alleged against him. MEAT WORKERS’ STRIKE. NEGOTIATIONS FAIL. LONDON, January 28. (Received January 29, at 12.10 p.m.) The negotiations between the Union Cold Stores Company and the Transport Workers’ Union, in regard to the strike, resulted in a deadlock. Two hundred porters arc still on strike. _ The executive of the union is considering the position.
