ENGINEER’S REPORT. During tho past month dredge 22-3 lifted twelve loads nr 9,996 cubic, yards from between piles 20 and 21, and thirty loads nr 24,990 cubic yards from between piles 21 and 22, making a total of fortytwo loads or 54,986 cubic yards. The whole of tills material was deposited at tlm dredgo Vulcan. During tho month the dredgo steamed 265 miles and consumed 170 tons of coal. On the evening of tlm 16th inst., whilst leaving the Vulcan’s pit, tho port propeller was stripped by striking ono of the beacons. A spare propeller and shaft were fitted on Saturday, the 17th inst., and the dredge, was ready to start on (lie 20(h. The Vulcan pumped 34,986 cubic yards received from dredge 222 into the Lake Logan reclamation_ area. During the month two vessels were docked in the Otago dock and two vessels in the Port Chalmers dock. Tho Otago dock was pumped out four times—twice to reset blocks and drainage purposes, and onco each for t.a.s. AVahine and s.s. River Wear. The Port. Chalmers dock was pumped out twice -once for each the tug Dunedin and s.s. Calm-—making a total of six pumps for the month. Drainage was dealt with by draining pumps while dock’s were occupied. Tho electric crane was in operation for twenty-nine hours, lifting machinery on board dredgo 350, lifting and rapinning winches and derricks on board s.a. River Wear. The, sheer-legs were in operation for three hours, lifting top tumbler to position on dredge 350, and unshipping lifting gear. Boilers and machinery axe in good working order and condition. For a period of four weeks ended January 17 2,025 cubic yards were quarried from Sunshine quarry, of which 15 cubic yards were deposited on (lie approach to old powder bulk and 2,010 cubic yards were deposited on tho south endowment wall.
