The Hon. Downie Stewart was engaged on departmental business this morning, and received a private deputation fioin Exhibition Company directors. This afternoon he laid the foundation stone of the new hall at Columba Girls College. At yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the Otago University Council the Chancellor (Rov. Dr Cameron) stated that on the occasion of Sir John Ross s ninetieth birthday ho had written congratulating him. lie had received ft letter in replyin which, Sir John Ross said that ho greatly appreciated tho fact that ho was being remembered, although he was nut now a member of Die council. Tho Leask bronze medal for mechanical dentistry luis this year been awarded to Mr A. H. Weir.

Dr Noel Fulton has been appointed temporary assistant to Dr llorcus, pending the return of Miss Gladys Cameron. At the meeting of the Otago University Council yesterday the Finance Committee reported'that Dr Lynch bad resigned his position as clinical pathologist, and asked to bo relieved as soon as possible. A letter was also received from the, sub-dean of Die medical faculty recommending that Hr D’Atb he appointed m Dr Lynch's place. It was resolved that n letter be Kent to Dm Hospital lioaid asking that Dr D’Ath he released from his appointment there as soon as possible, and that from that date Dr Lynch’s resignation bo Accepted and Dr D'Ath bo appointed as clinical pathologist till March 51 next, his salary to be at tho rate of £3OO per annum.
