EMPIRE CONFERENCES

HR MASSEY'S VIEWS. ENDORSED BY ME BEXJCE. Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Press Association. MELBOURNE, December 10. (Received December 10, at 11.10 a.m.) Referring to Mr Massey’s recent statement, in which ho expressed agreement with tho views of Mr L. C. Amery that if Great Britain expected tho overseas Ministers to make periodical visits to London in order to consult British Ministers, tho latter should bo equally prepared to make the journey overseas and hold conferences in various parts of the Empire, Mr Bruce said he cordially welcomed not only Mr Amery’s suggestion, but Mr Masse, 's endorsement of it. Ho entirely agreed with the opinion that there was urgent necessity for some arrangement being made by which more frequent conferences could be held by representatives of the self-governing portions of the Empire, without it being compulsory for the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand to travel to London. If arrangements could be made for holding conferences in the different centres of the Empire it would be quite possible to have more frequent consultations than had been found practicable in the past. He welcomed the suggestion for the periodical visits of Briiish" Ministers, ns it was only by this means that British statesmen could hope to obtain first-hand information on the problems which confronted tho different parts of the Empire.
