A public meeting of the Council of the League of Nations was opened this afternoon in tho presence of all the members. Air Austen Chamberlain, replying to a welcome extended by the president of the Council, emphasised, the British Empire’s respect for tho League and its appreciation of its work. M. Briand, interviewed earlier, expressed the opinion that Britain’s desire to postpone the discussion of the Disarmament Protocol was natural, because it was necessary to consult hor dominions.
