I Dr Crawshaw, Medical Officer of Health, , * submitted a report on the drainage at / KaiUngata Hospital, slating that there ' | were two alternatives which could be conl sidered. one being the installation of sop - I tic tanks to deal with the sewage and ; I tho overflow to drain into the I stratum around, and the other (which ho 1 recommended) a septic tank, and the i overflow piped down to the road to the ’■ river (with, say, a 4in pipe), to open into I I the river near the sluice gates opposite ’ j tho hotel. If necessary, and the people j 1 who lived in the streets wanted it, the houses could be linked with the pipes.—■ . Mr Fenton said that the estimated cost ,-f the work was in the vicinity of £SOO, but it would bo cheaper in the long run. 1 He would, however, like to see the people of Kahangata lake on a- drainage system ■ of their own. Simson wrote resigning his posi- ’ j tion as a member of the board.—The resignation was noted, and the secretary I was” instructed to take the necessary steps ito tinvo the vacancy filled. The Chairman mentioned that Air Simson’s services had been very valuable to the board, and perhaps he would consent to re-nomina-tion. I The financial statement for the month | showed receipts amounting to £535 5s lOd, and an expenditure of £5,249 12s lid. Air Fenton objected to the payments of £2O 16s 8d to the superintendents of Milton and Owaka Hospitals, and the objection was noted after the report had been I adopted. j On the motion of Mr Clark, seconded by | Air King, it was decided that the beard ■ should join tho Hospital Boards’ Association. The Chairman pointed out that tho subscription would bo about £ll or £l2 a year. Tho Clerk of tho Clulha County Council wrote in reply to tho hoard’s letter agreeing to pay £1 for £1 on £196 odd spent, by the council in forming and metalling the road to Owaka Hospital, provided the hoard could legally do so, staling that consideration of forming and metalling the footpath was deferred meantime.—The letter was received. Mr Driver gave notice of motion that the day of meeting be changed to a Satj nrday, ns under present conditions tho meeting coincided with the Milton sale.
