CHAMBER MUSIC RECITAL

1 ’ Much interest is being manifested in tho i recital of chamber music which will be given in Borns Hall on Wednesday next. As a factor in musical education the importance of a chamber music recital should not bo overlooked. The advantage to the student of attendance at such a recital are mainly these : the opportunity of becoming familiar with concerted music, in which each player has an individual part to perform, and the opportunity ot gaining a knowledge of the string quartets of the great masters. Haydn is credited with having established the string quartet on a firm foundation. His quartet in G major, well known as the ‘ Emperor,’ will he played at this recital. Mr Trevor Ue Clivo-Lowe ('cellist) will _ play Saint-Saens’s 1 Concerto in A Minor.’ The trio for pianoforte, violin, an! violoncello is a combination very frequently met with, and' it possesses perhaps the richest catalogue of works of all classed of chamber music except the string quartet... Dvorak will be represented by his ‘ Trio in F Minor,’ Op. 65. This will be interpreted by Messrs Chas, A. Martin (piano), J. A. Wallace (violin), and Trevor De Clivc-Lowe (’cello). Mrs Astley Black will be heard to advantage in ‘ Depui’s 1c jour,’ from Charpentier’s ‘Louise,’ and in Goring Thomas’s ‘The Willow.’ Also included in the programme will bo Beethoven's quartet in E flat for piano and strings, in which Mr Martin will have associated with him Messrs Wallace, Pcttitt, and Lowe. The plan is now one view at The Bristol.
