Mr W. H. Hngger Conciliation Commissioner, cafe from Invercargill this morning, and went on to Christchurch. Mr N. B. Busk, handicapper, attended the Winton races, and went on to-day to Auckland. Air W. J. March, of Windham, loft Dunedin this morning for Christchurch. Gray Dixon, having returned from nine months’ relieving duty at Christchurch, is now at his home at St. Leonards, prior to taking other relieving work at Invercargill. Staying at the Grand Hotel are Air H. S. Orbell (Oamaru), Messrs W. Ingle and J. and C. Douglas, and Airs Afoncarrow (Christchurch), Mr J. AC. on (Lecston), Air L. C. Stony (Southbridgo), Mrs J. B. Reid (Elders)ie), Air L. Wyness (Sydney), and 0. Hutchinson (Timarn). , Air E. E. Gilion, chief mechanical engineer of the Yew Zealand Railways, has retired on superannuation. Air Gilion joined the department in 1884 as n hoy of sixteen, where he was an apprentice in tho Hillside Workshops. He gradually worked his way up through the department until, in 1914, ho was plana in charge of tho Addington Workshops, and was appointed assistant locomotive engineer for tho Eolith Island, lie was transferred to the head office at Wellington in 1915, and was appointed chief mechanical engineer in April, 1919. The Rev. W. R. Alilue, of Kurow, has received a call to St. Andrew’s Church, Waixoa (Hawke’s Bay). A Christchurch message states that Air P. R. Climie, organiser of the Canterbury Progress League, has been appointed secretary to the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, and will now hold both positions.

He joined (ho Police Force in 1877, and served a number of years in Wellington, and was the first constable appointed at Newtown, He subsequently served in Nelson, Eeefton, in Wellington as senior sergeant and sub-inspector, also in Dunedin, aad finally at Hamilton as inspector. His wife predeceased him in 1922. The deceased leaves a, family of two sons and a daughter. A London cable announces the death, of Vice-admiral R. W. While. He was Director of Naval Intelligence from 1595 to 1897.
