FIRE PROTECTION AT EXHIBITION For the purpose of demonstrating the efficiency of tho Vigilant Automatic Fire Alarm System, a partial installation was erected in tlio entrance of tho transportation building, and a fire test was carried out on Thursdy last in the presence of Superintendent A. G. Napier and Deputysuperintendent J. J. Salmon of the City Fire Brigade, and several others directly interested. Several' tests were made, but the most severe one was made beneath the thermostats placed in the highest portion of the building, where a email fire was Jdndled, and, despite the fact that the unfinished state of the building offered many channels of escape for the small amount of heat gene’nated, the alarm promptly responded within the incredibly short time of sixtyfive seconds. J All present expressed their surprise at the prompt functioning of tho system under apparently impossible conditions, which almost amounted to an . open-air demonstration.
