SINKING A BATTLESHIP
A DIFFICULT OPERATION. NEW YORK, November 21. Oddly enough, the battleship Washington, winch is being destroyed in observance of the Disarmament Conference, will probably establish a record in withstanding a hail of shot and shell and bombs. Yesterday, the. battleship Texas stood off and pounded the hull with the heaviest projectiles, and to everyone’s surprise the ship was still floating this morning. _ For two hours to-day there were air attacks, with bombs, weighing as much, as 2,0001 b. Some direct hits wore made, but they failed to sink the ship, which could have reached port safely, according to experts who made an examination. To-night the ship wont down under a terrible bombardment, which included some underwater charges.
