The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected with the south express. Tills PORT HUNTER. The C. and D. Line steamer Port Hunter, from l/oudon via New Zealand ports, is due hero on Wednesday afternoon to discharge 2.500 tons of general cargo. From here she proceeds to Bluff to commence Homeward loading. Her other loading ports arc Timaru, Auckland, Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton. LAS VEGAS DUE THURSDAY. Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the Swayue and Hpyte Lino steamer Las Vegas is due at Dunedin on Thursday next from Seattle, Vancouver, and San Francisco via Auckland and Lyttelton. After discharging a large quantity of lumber, case oil, and .general freight the Las Vegas will go to Melbourne to complete discharge. AUTOMATIC GAS LIGHTS. The Marine Department has decided to increase tile size of the gas reservoir cylinders at a number of unmatched lights on the coast to double their present capacity. The increased amount of gas available for these lights will save the Tntanekai a. lot of time on her trips around the lighthouses. Owing to bad weather considerable delays occur on account of the difficulty of effecting a landing at the unmatched lights. The innovation will enable. the Tufanekai to proceed on her way, as the gas at the lights will be sufficient till the vessel returns on her next round trip. The large cylinders will lie installed at the lights at Okuri Point, Chetwood Island. Ohena Island, Flat Reck, Ponui, and Matakaoa.
