What does a General Election in Groat Britain cost? Last year’s appeal to the country cost about £1,500,000, of which, it was computed, less than £1,000,000 was drawn from the party chests. In 1922 the total expenditure of candidates was £1,018,196, the total votes cast being 14,399,932. The cheapest contest was for the University of Wales, where, the, successful candidate spent-£25, the second £24, and the third £1 less.
