SUDAN UNITED MISSION

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The iuimial meeting of members of flic Otago launch of the Sudan United Mission, held in the Y.M.C.A. assembly ball last, evening, was presided over bv the Rev. \V. Walker. The Chairman feelingly and appreciatively spoke of the Rev. Alfred North, whoso death had been keenly felt. REPORTS. Air H. 11. Driver (treasurer) submitted the- financial report, which .stated that the year 1925-24 was begun with a, credit balance of £6 7s lOd, and that during the vear donations, collections, etc., had amounted to £299 Is 9d. Of this amount £52 2s 6d was received from the Oama.ru branch and £lll 5s from the Ladies’ Auxiliary, Dunedin. The incidental expenses amounted to £ll 17s, and the sum of £275 was remitted to Wellington, headquarters of the mission for New Zealand. The year closed in November with a credit balance of £lß' 12s 7d. Miss I. I. Purvis submitted the report of the Women’s Auxiliary. It stated that the membership was now thirty-three, and that £SB lO.s had been raised for the mission funds by a concert, and £l7 by direct giving. Fifty-three pounds had been collected. Shirts had been made for the boys at the Heiban school, and to three different, stations eleven useful parcels had been despatched. These reports and tho annual report (published) were, adopted. GENERAL. Mr G. E. Inglis said that the,-Women's Auxiliary was tho active and live part, of the organisation here. Tho mission’s weakness in this centre was that new young men workers were not being secured, though they were urgently needed. Those concerned with the branch were mostly tried and experienced persons who had been connected with the mission for some years. The visit on furlough of Mr and Mrs 1). N. Mac Diarmid from AugloKgyptian Sudan early next- year would arouse fresh enthusiasm. Mr Inglis also appealed to members for financial support. Mr G. IV. Gibson endorsed Ihe remarks of Mr Inglis. and asked that Ihe. present position in Sudan he made n matter of special prayer. There was danger, he said, in the, spread of Moha.nimeda.nism. Mr .7. D.
