The fourth annual meeting of the Waimato Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., was hold on Saturday morning last, Mr H. H. Meredith, chairman of directors, presiding over a good attendance of shareholders and suppliers. Tho report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows; Directors —Messrs A. S. Kinsman, Croasor, and Penno; auditor, Mr F. Burgess (Christchurch). It was decided to increase the directors’ remuneration from £2OO to £3OO per annum.

Mr Hollingworth presided at tho fortnightly meeting of the Dunedin Gardening Club, held in the Y.M.O.A. Rooms last night. The address was 'given by Mr E. A. Hamel, who spoko on the cultivation of spring flowers. Mr Hamel gave a description of the cultivation of the most popular spring flowers,, and exhibited a number of choice seedling narcissi. A largo number of members also exhibited spring flowers of various varieties, qmongst which were soma fine narcissi seedlings and polyanthus By Mr A. P. M‘Carthy. A basket of lachenalia, shown by Mr J. Passmore, Abbotsford, and a plant of lachenalia, grown in the open by Mr 0. Beal, attracted much interest, as did a quantity of iris blooms grown by Miss Nelson. At the conclusion of the address, the lecturer was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The Farmers’ Union Executive at Auckland has decided that ten Auckland provincial electorates shall be contested on behalf of the Country Party at tho next General Election. Tho city seats and Franklin and Kaipara were specifically excluded, but no announcement was made as to the actual selection. Mr A. A. Ross will outline the party’s policy at Hamilton shortly. Four youths, a'ged sixteen, appeared at the Auckland Police Court, one on a charge of breaking and entering with intent to commit • a crime, and the others on charges of breaking and entering. All were remanded till September 25. The arrests wore the sequel to an incident in Durham street the night before. It is stated that a detective, with the proprietor of the tea rooms, concealed himself inside the premises, while another defective waited outside. After a few minutes four youths were surprised, three insido the building, and one outside underneath the window. One youth was arrested after a struggle, but the others got away. Tho suspects were arrested in the morning. The fortnightly gathering of the Dunedin Orphans’ Club was held in tho Stuart Street Hall last evening. Bro. T. W, Bobbie presided over a large number of members, The programme submitted was of a very high order, and items were freely applauded. The orchestra, under Bro. H. Davie, rendered several enjoyable selections, and a jazz band, under the baton of Bro. H. M'Donald, added to the evening’s entertainment. Bro. Canon Nevill cave an amusing reading, while Bro. S. 11. Osborn contributed a clever slut. Bros. T. Bachop, H. E. Lyon, R. Brown, and P. Smith gave songs. Comrade J. H. Cocks (of Christchurch) gave a very artistic rendering of ‘Down Here.’ Bro. J. M‘Conne.ll contributed a musical monologue, while a xylophone solo was played bv Mr Andrews. The accompanist for the evening was Bro. J. Haggitt. The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon; present—Messrs J. Wilson (chairman), T* Chalmor, J. S. Wobb, and J. J. Clark. Formal business was dealt with, and the superintendent’s report was received. It stated that seventeen calls had beea attended during the month of August. Of ’ those, three were fires in buildings, ten were chimney fires, and two were mali-ciously-given false alarms. The ambulance motors had been called into service on 109 occasions during the. month. The board’s annual report was presented, and the superintendent’s annual report was referred to tho General Committee for consideration
