HOSPITAL MATRONS

APPOINTMENTS TO DUNEDIN AND MIDDLEMARCH. Tho Otago Hospital Board yesterday selected Miss Mabel Thurston as matron of tho Dunedin Hospital 'and director of nursing. Miss Thurston, who is at present matron of the Pukeora Sanatorium, was trained in tho Wellington Hospital, since devoting herself entirely to administration work, and holding matronships since 1906. Her first appointment was to tho Greyraouth Hospital, and from there she went to Christchurch as female superintendent of the Canterbury Hospital Board’s institutions. She left that position to go to the front, being matron of No. 2 New Zealand General Hospital, A few months later she was appointed matron-in-chief of tho N.Z.E.P., a position she held until her demobilisation in 1920. On her return to New Zealand she continued in military sendee, holding tho position of matron of King George Hospital at Rotorua and of matron of tho Trentham Military Hospital until the latter, was closed in 1922, Since then she has had added experience of special hospitals at Queen Mary's (Hanmer Springs) and Pukeora Sanatorium. For her work with tho Forces Mias Thurston was awarded the C.B.E. and tho R.R.C. (first class). MIDDLEMARCH APPOINTMENT. At the fame meeting bliss Beatrice Reilly was appointed matron of tho Louisa Roberts Hospital (Middlcma-rch) for a period of twelve months. Miss Reilly had general training in tho Naseby Hospital, and she is at present in charge of the El Nathan Maternity Hospital at Waimato. Miss Reilly has. specialised in maternity nursing.
