BIBLE CLASS INSTITUTE

The final meeting of the institute took place in Stuart Hall on Monday last, when Dr Herrington concluded his talks on Luke’s Gospel, dealing particularly with the moral and spiritual characteristics. The speaker reminded his hearers that Luke, the Greek, wrote as a Greek to the “ cosmopolitan peoples of all ages,” and ■that his gospel was distinguished from the other two Synoptic Gospels by two great features—the unique account of the Nativity and childhood of Jesus and His parables, showing tire value of man as man, and not as a member of any particular' race. In dealing with the first two chapters the difference in style and diction was commented upon, and reasons shown why thus was a rough Greek translation of an Aramaic document, the inference being that Dr Luke received his account from Mary herself at Jerusalem while gathering material for his treatise while with Paul at Caesarea. Both as regards style and texture this narrative bore the stamp of being a very early Christian writing (probably preceding that of Ist Thessalonians), and showed all the characteristics of the language of the Hebrew peasantry. His warm sympathy with women and children and with Hie poor and outcast, were all dealt with by the lecturer. The speaker- finished four magnificent studies by reminding those present that they ,too, had to be witnesses, and had to do their part in ushering in this kingdom here in Now Zealand, ever remembering that the “Kingdom of God is within vou.”

Mr Haigh, on behalf 'of the students, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to Dr IMorrington for his very helpful and inspiring addresses. The sectional meetings dealing with the problems of Bible class ■ work brought a successful institute to a close.
