STEALING FROM WAREHOUSES.
In' sentencing two men, Thompson and Holey, Mr llcrdman said it had been stated recently bv the Crown Prosecutor that within twelve months £1,600 worth oi’ goods had disappeared li'om one city warehouse, £I.OOO worth thorn another; and it was now slated in connection wuh tins c,,-e that £I.BOO worth of goods had been stolen troin .Macky, Logan, and Caldwell. Ltd Thornpsoi had plea ded guilty to stealing £H)O wortn. this kind of crime was becoming too prevalent. .Dishonest men in warehouses would have to understand that dishonesty womd be severely punished by tiio court. I-'olec gave a few shillings to Thompson for goods worth pounds. Detective White saw Eoley. who admitted receiving Horn £121) to £2U) worth of goods. His Honor said ho would accept the statement that the two-men were eually culpable. In most cases the receiver was w«rsc than the thief.—Auckland Press Association, telegram.
