IN MEMORY OF KEIR HARDIE

Old Ctimnock, Ayrshire, was en fete recently, when thousands of members representing nearly 200 branches of tho Independent Labor Party in Glasgow and Scotland generally, took part in a demonstration in celebration of Koir Hardie Memorial Day and tho advent of the first Labor Government. Several special trains conveyed tho demonstrators to Cumnock, tho scene of Koir Hardio’s early struggles. A procession was joined in the public square, and, accompanied by bands and banners, they inarched to Townhcad Park, whore speeches were delivered from four platforms, half a dozen Labor members taking part, includingMessrs James Brown, Robert Smillie, James Maxton, David Kirkwood, and W. H. Martin. Mr Smillie said that if they had given Ramsay MacDonald a majority of fifty or sixty in the Houso of Commons he would not merely have been clearing away tho cobwebs to-day—he would have been down to tho spider itself. Later, Mr Smillie and others motored to tho residence of Mrs Keir Hardie and presented her with an address referring to her husband’s life work.
