Something like a tidal wave war caused on a recent evening on Sonthsea beach while the two great liners, Bcrcngaria and Majestic, outward and inward bound respectively. were passing through the Solent. Hundreds of beach chairs, numerous mail cans, coats, clothing, boots and shoes, and ell sorts of articles were immediately awash. The rush of water was so sudden that women and children by the water’s edge were caught before they could got away. Policemen and others rescued a. number of children with difficulty. Forty people were taken to the South Parade Pier, where their clothing was dried and refreshments were given them.
