THE MOTOR VEHICLES BILL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Tho Motor Vehicles Bill is undoubtedly a good measure in many respects, but, as the owner of a small car,,l wish to point out the unfairness of the amount of license fees for cars. .Sc far as I can gather, it is proposed that the license fee shall be tho same for the £IOO as for the £I,OOO car. This is grossly unfair. It is as unfair as it would be to make the man whose income is £3OO per year pay the same income tax as the man whoso income is £3,000 a year. Or you may take it in relation to road usage and upkeep. The man with the low-powered small car is limited in his radius of distance, and very often his motoring is confined to a week-end spin. Compare this with the owner of the big car, whose car is on the road every day, especially where a chauffeur is kept. Who takes most out of the roads, and who should pay most in license fees in the way of upkeep?--! am, etc., Fourteen-house. August 19.
