Peake (linesman) appeared to give an account of an incident said to have happened in tho Seacliff-Old Boys match, plaved at Seacliff on August 9. It was alleged that the referee used objectionable language to Eraser when he had asked for a ruling on a. free kick from which Seacliff had goalod. Mr Harraway (delegate for Old Boys) said that Seacliff had been awarded a free kick, but that players did not know for which side it had* been given, nor for what offence. Fraser had asked the referee for a, ruling. Fraser verified Mr Harraway’s remarks. He said that a. free kick against Old Boys had been given for an infringement in the penalty area. Hooper (Seacliff) and two Old Bovs’ backs were together when the whistle “was blown, and both Imrio and Hooper had fouled the. ball. _ Before the Old Boys could get in position tho ball was kicked and a goal was scored. Ho thought, if anything, a penally kick should have been given against his side, and as captain contended that he had tho right to ask for a ruling. Ho had felt annoyed at the time of asking, but the words used were not deserved. Mr Peake, said ho had seen the play ~-hich led up to the incident. Both teams had seemed to anticipate a free kick.

Mr Fogarty, in reply, said that knowledge of the charge had come to him as a big surprise. With regard to the words said to have been used lie would neither admit nor refute anything. Fraser had been a “ pest,” and ho (the referee) had done him a favor by allowing him to remain on the field. He- had refereed fairly in about the hardest game of his experience. The referee was question, and the matter was discussed at length. Mr MTnncs finally moved that the matter bo dropped. Mr Anderson said that, in considering the matter, it would bo seen that Fraser had given a straightforward version; the referee bad had a bad memory or bad refused to auswer questions. He moved an amendment—“ That the referee be censured.” This was carried by 7 votes to 6, one member not recording bis vote. PLAYER SUSPENDED. Mr McLennan, who refereed the third grade match Southern v. Post a.nd Telegraph, reported that ho had cautioned a player for rough play and answering bade The referee attended and verbally endorsed bis letter, but the player failed to appear. GENERAL.
