KAIKORAI BAND

SOCIAL GATHERING. The Kaikorai Rand smoke social was held in Kroon’s Hall on Saturday night. Mr J. Hunter (president of the Dunedin Bauds' Association) occupied the chair. In reply to the toast of “The Kaikorai Baud,” Mr Davie stated that they had been having lean years, but they intended to keep the old flag flying. Their ■success in the past had been tho result of hard work. Ho, mentioned several old players, and said there was no instrument for which the Kaikorai Band could not show medals.

Mr J. Eraser, in proposing the toast of “The City,” coupled with which was the name of Mr J. S., Dougins, stated that the local bands were well treated as regards subsidies. Ho regretted, however, that they were not allowed to hold Sunday night concerts, hut they were endeavoring to arrange to have them. Mr Douglas, in reply, said ho did not think the local bands had received enough subsidy. There was nothing more uplifting than hand music. He hoped the City Council would rise to the occasion and allow Sunday night concerts. He could not see the difference between holding the concerts in the afternoon or the evening.

Other toasts were: “ Tho Dunedin Bands’ Association,” proposed by Mr Dixon and replied to by Air APPhorsou, and “Kindred Societies,” proposed by Mr Adamson and replied to by representatives of tho various local bands.

During the evening presentations were made to Mr It. A. Oaten on the occasion of his marriage and to Air J. Eraser for his services as secretary. Framed certificates wore presented to Messrs Kerr, Boyd, Whelan, and Davie.

Items were contributed as follows; Recitation, Mr Fraser; songs—Messrs Reynolds, Clarkson, and Douglas; cornet duet, Alessrs Goughian and Rolleston; trombone solo, Air Osten; tenor horn solo, Air Whelan ; conjuring, Air Wilburn ; cornet solo, Air Hunter.
