From that country she recently received an astonishing letter, acknowledging her application and asking for her portrait. The writer, evidently a native, said that he would be willing to enter into matrimony, and added : “ For the passage to Java all your necessary expenses will be paid.”
Senator Pearce said that careful inquiries on tho linos indicated had been made by his department for .some years.
