The twenty-five-year-old dispute between the lato Empress Eugenie and the French Government lias been settled. The Empress, in. 1899, was awarded 2,287,000 francs from Hie Imperial Civil .List, but the money was not. paid, and it is now duo to tlio Empress’s heiress, Princess Marie, the Uvclvo-yoar-old daughter of Prince Victor Napoleon. As the death duties ami transfer fees amount to 4,500,000 francs, Princess Marie has agreed to waive all her claims, provided that the State gives her Napoleon’s sword and clock, which were the property of Queen Hortenso (wife of Louis Bonaparte). -A. and N.Z.
