YOUNG MAN'S FOLLY

A BULLET THAT MISSED ITS BILLET. A young man, who hobbled into the Police Court this morning on crutches, pleaded guilty to n. charge of having attempted to commit suicide. He was represented by Mr J. C. Stephens. Senior-sergeant Mathieson said that accused had been worrying over the management of an estate. On the day that ha attempted to take his life accused had been seen typing a business letter. Tin’s was at 7.30' a.m. Ho was not seen again until ton minutes to 12, when ho was found with a bullet wound ;n In's forehead. He was taken to the hospital, and had just been discharged. The country had been put to the expenditure of £7O 4s 6d in connection with attendance on the accused, and the hospital hill had amounted to £27, and he asked that this sh oulii he repaid. Counsel had seen a doctor about the young man, and ho could give an assurance that there would bo no I rouble in the future. Tim young man had not quite recovered, hut he was cheerful and bright The sum referred to by the senior-sergeant, would, cf course, bo paid. Tim accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, a condition being made that the amount owing should be paid. The Magistrate made an order suppresing the name of accused.
