The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Tekoa arrived at Port Chalmers (his morning from Bluff to load cheese and oilier products for England. She was delayed in load'ng operations to-day by | rain, hut is expected to sail to-morrow for Timaru and other northern ports to complete her cargo. The HolmdaJe, which arrived this morning from Wellington, is expected to sail to-night for Oamani. Timaru, Lyttelton. Wellington, and Wanganui. The Wingatui, which is undergoing survey at Port Chalmers, is to sail to-morrow evening for Westport, 'i’he Cairn is due cm May 10 from Bluff, and is listed to sail the following day for Wellington and Wanganui via ports. The Breeze is expected on May 7 from Lyttelton to load for Oamani, Timaru. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Gale is due to-night from Timaru, and is listed to sail to-morrow for Timaitt, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. The Federal liner Suffolk, which left Wellington on March 14. arrived at Las Palmas on April 25, and sailed on (he same date in roniimianee of her voyage to west coast ports of Great Britain, The Port Stephens, of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, has been sold to Ilalians for about 817.0C0. The small steamer Kant, recently sold by the Union Company to a syndicate for the Island trade, arrived at Sydney on April 19 from Port Chalmers in tow of the steamer Waikonaiti. On tho long stretch of 1.300 miles from (he Now Zealand coast the Waikouaiti met- with heavy weather, and fierce gales at times made the towage work extremely difficult. In a south-west gale both vessels were horc-to for twelve hours. On another occasion the tow rope damaged the, Kant's bulwarks. and the vessels were under reduced speed for fix hours while the damage wa.s made good. NEW TUG FOR SIDNEY. The new tug James Wallace, specially designed for service at Sydney, arrived at the New South Wales port last week from (he United Kingdom. The James Wallace was built at the dockyards of Messrs Ferguson and Co., Port. Glasgow, for the estate of tho late James Wallace. A vessel of 115 ft in length, 25ft beam, and 13ft draught, she has a bunker capacity of 103 tons of coal. On her trials the •lames Wallace attained a speed of 12.8 knots on a consumption of thirteen tons of coal per day, and. when averaging 9.5 knots, burns 7.75 tons of coal. CANADIAN GOVERNMENT LINE. The Canadian Challenger, from Halifax via New London, is due at Auckland about May 13, Brisbane May 23, and Sydney May 27, en route to Melbourne and Adelaide. The Canadian Miller was timed to leave Halifax on April 22 for Australasian ports. The Canadian Cruiser _ leaves Montreal on May 31 for Australasian ports. The "Canadian Constructor sails from Montreal on June 28 for Australasian ports. The Canadian Traveller sailed from Vancouver on March 19 for Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. The steamer was due at. Sydney on April 24. The Canadian Seigneur is to leave Vancouver on May 5 for Auckland, Sydney, and Melbourne. The Canadian Planter sails from Vancouver about June 28 for Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. A ONE-CLASS SHIP. The Jervis Bay, which left Sydney recently for London via ports, is the first of the Commonwealth Line to sail completely transformed into a one-class ship. The rearrangement is a striking bit of work. It provides a reading and silence room of first-class quality. The lino has built up a beautifully-furnished apartment amidships for the convenience ot passengers who prefer silence to the social hall—:i place where they can road, write, or lounge in a luxurious apartment. , Captain Frank limes, marine superintendent, designed the apartment on his last trip to London, and perfected the plans on her way back to Australia. They were, returned to London, and the Jervis Bay was intercepted at Plymouth and the work started. The men kept at it day and night until it was completed. The chief officer’s room, tho third and fourth officers’ room, and portion of t.lie first class saloon were taken up in building the place, and the timber is English oak. The chairs at the writing desk are fitted so that they can ho moved to suit the comfort of the user. TRAN SHIP .31 EN T CA RG O. Cargo landed at Dunedin yesterday and to-day from the Moeraki from Melbourne included transhipments ex the steamers Jervis Bay, Largs Bay, Persic. Eurclia, Principessa, Giovanni, Ormond, Omar, Garada, and Ville de Metz. OTAKI TO LOAD HERE. The New- Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Otaki is duo at Port Chalmers on May 9 from Lyttelton to load frozen meat, fruit, and other products for England. She will sail about .May 12 for Wellington to complete her loading. PORT CAROLINE'S MOVEMENTS. Messrs J, W. Fwiff mid Co. advise that tlie C. and D. Lino steamer Port Caroline is due at Wellington to-morrow from Banbury via Auckland to discharge a part cargo of hardwood. She will complete discharge at Lyttelton, and will afterwards come to Port, Chalmers for dry docking. The vessel is due here about May 11, and will subsequently load at Timaru. Lyttelton. Picton, Gisborne, and Wellington for London. WAUIEMO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Union Company's freighter Waihemo, from Pacific Coast porta via Auckland. Napier, and Lyttelton, arrived this morning, and was berthed at the Birch street wharf to discharge several hundred tons of general cargo and case oil. The vessel, after loading at various Pacific Coast ports, sailed finally from Fan Francisco. Fhe was held up at Lyttelton last week owing to the railway strike. From Dunedin the. Y.'aihemo will go to New Plymouth to complete discharge. Flic will afterwards re-enter the NewcastleNew Zealand coal trade. Captain D. Todd is in command of the Wailtemo. RADNOR FROM NEW YORK. The local agents for the C. and D. Line advise that- the chartered steamer Radnor is due at Wellington to-morrow from New York via Auckland. The vessel will later visit. Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff, a! which ports the remainder of her American cargo will he discharged. The Radnor is due here about. May 14. THE PORT WELLINGTON. Messrs J. W. Fwift and Co: advise that the C. and D. Lino steamer Port Wellington, with general cargo from Glasgow and Liverpool, is due at Mollington to-morrow .roui Auckland. Her other discharging ports are Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. Tho vessel is dim here about May 13. The Port. Wellington will commence Homeward loading at Bluff about. May 16.
