NATIONAL ART GALLERY. (Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 15. Tho annual meeting of the Board of Science and Art was held to-day. Tho Hon. R. F. Bollard welcomed members and said there was much on record for which they deserved the thanks of the community and of the Government. Their work had been recognised by other countries. A step in the right direction : was the appointment of a board to con- ; aider the best means of preserving articles of Maori workmanship. He also referred I in appreciative terms to Sir Harold Beauchamp's gift of valuable property, the I rente from which are to be devoted to I providing funds for the National Art : Gallery. 1 The meeting endorsed these remarks, | and decided to urge that a Bill be brought forward regulating the sale of gas in ; terms of its calorific value. 1 Mr H. M. Gore said that the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts had in course .of preparation a scheme which it was hoped would bring nearer realisation the establishment of a National Art Gallery. Gallery. Thomson, and Mr Von H&ast. Art Committee.—Messrs H. M. Gore, A. | F. Nichol], Gray Young, E. W. Hunt, I F. W. Furkert, and Dr E. Marsden. | On the motion of Dr Scholefield it was I resolved—“ That this hoard welcomes the ' statement made by the Minister with re- ' gard to tho new museum, and again reaffirms its opinion that it is a most,urgent matter.” j The following words -were added at the instance of Dr Marsden“ That tin board considers the absence of a National Museum is responsible for the loss each ! year of valuable bequests and gifts to the | dominion.” j Reference was made to tho transfer of 1 the museum collections to the Dominion j Farmers’ Institute.
