CHALLENGE SHIELD COMPETITION. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, December 10. (Received December 11 ,at 9.50 a.m.) In the Imperial Challenge Shield Com petition, 1,911 teams competed—6o9 from South Africa, 574 from New Zealand, 380 from Great Britain, 277 from Australia, and 134 from Canada. Ninety-three prizes went to South Africa, tlurty-eight to Britain, thirty-six to New Zealand, thirtytwo to Australia, and thirty-two to Canada, 0 Shields are no.v awarded to organisations showing the highest all-round efficiency. Hilton College (Natal) wins the senior shield. The following Australians were among the prize winner’s:—Claremont, West Australia, eighth; R.A.N.R. Cadets, Geelong, nineteenth, thirty-second, fortythird, fiftieth, and fifty-fourth; Unlay. South Africa, thirty-fourth and fortyfirst. The Governor-General’s trophy was awarded to E Company, Unlay, which had 394 competitors. New Zealand prize winners include New Plymouth High School, fourteenth, twenty-filth, and fortieth; _A Company, Sixth Battalion, Otago, sixteenth ; 'Nelson College, seventeenth. The Governor-General’s trophy was awarded to New Plymouth High School, which had 316 competitors. The Emmasffale Cadets, Heidelberg, South Africa, w r on the- junior _ shield. There were no Australian competitors in this division owing to the raising of the age limit for the force. The New Zealand prize winners include New Plymouth, thirty-second, fortieth, and fifty-third; Sacred Heart College, Auckland, fifty-second. The King sent a message noting the satisfactory increase in the number of entries and of the efficiency shown, also expressing the hope that a still further impetus would bo given the popularity of these competitions throughout the Empire by the new conditions, the object of which is to encourage mess efficiency ou the broadest lines.—A. and N.Z.
