The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, celebrated his sixty-fourth birthday on Wednesday last. His Excellency had no official engagements, and spent a quiet day at Government House. The Hon. C. J. Parr (Minister of Justice and Education), who is at present visiting Australia, is not expected back to New Zealand until .Christmas Day or Boxing Day. Mr R. C. He was born near Glasgow, and landed at Port Chalmers about 1862. He lived briefly at Dunedin and Timaru, and then became one of the pioneers on the West Coast. He occasionally camped on the site of Christchurch Cathedral. Deceased was a friend of the late Richard John Soddon, and was also the father of one of New Zealand’s Rhodes scholars.
