‘SNOW MAIDEN '

MADAME LIPKOVSKA. “They call me Snow Maiden” It was a snow maiden who spoke, a slim girl with tints of ivory and hair like gold. Nobody at the hotel in which she was stopping knew that the frail girl they called “Mrs Richards” was in reality a snow maiden who had brought great cities to her feet. But Lydia Lipkovska is a famous singer. As a coloratura soprano she has stirred Paris and Petrograd, London and New York, Monto Carlo and Milan. Critics have placed her amongst the first five sopranos in the world. Her career has been swift and brilliant. In one night she became a pnma donna, straight from her studies at tho Imperial Conservatoire in Petrograd. She has seen many triumphs at such theatres as Covent Garden, in London (where she appeared for three seasons in succession); tho Grand Opera-house in Paris; the Metropolitan in New York; the Imperial Theatre in Petrograd; and the opera-houses of Rome, Boston, and Chicago. Hitherto New Zealand has known her only through her records for tho gramophone, and of these only a limited number have made their way out. She arrived two weeks ago in Wellington; since thou her name has been on everyone’s lips. Lipovska will be heard at His Majesty’s Theatre on Saturday next, with concerts on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday of next week, under tho direction of Mr E. J. Gravestock.

The box plans open on Wednesday at Tho Bristol.
