A DIAMOND WEDDING

■ 4 Mr and Mrs Thomas Craig, who have lived at East Tided for dose on sixty years, celebrated their diamond wedding last week. They were married in Scotland in 1863. Friends gathered al '‘Brownlea,” the old couple's home, from far and near to mark the occasion, in the course of the evening Mr Win. Allan presented a photograph to Mr and Mrs Craig' of the elders and deacons of East Taiori Church. The following address was read hy Mr Walter Blaekie and presented hy Mr \V. C. Todd on behalf of near friends and neighbors;—"On (he occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of your wedding ve, desire to offer you our warmest congratulations and to express the very great pleasure we feel that, you have been so long ■spared to one another and to your family and friends. Throughout your long residence among the Taieri folk, extending over a. period of about sixty years, your invariable courtesy and kindness, your obvious sincerity in all your intercourse with olhcis, and the cjuici felicity of your home life j have been an inspiration to all who have ' come into closest touch with you -and in- | Huenco for good upon the whole community. In looking back inio the past wo call in remembrance that you have consistently supported the church of your lathers. (Mr Craig has been a, deacon in the East Taieri congregation from .Inly 8, 1877, to March 20, 1904, and an older from the latter date to the present time.) As members of the band of early settlers who made their homes in the East Taieri district you have had your full share in the development of tlie district and have taken a. keen interest in every worthy object and institution, notably the Taieri Agricultural Society. As the evening of life approaches wo earnestly pray that the Divine blessing may 'rest abundantly upon you both, and that in the days that remain you may enjoy siHt measure of ■good health as your increasing years will permit.” Mr Todd, Mr David Sutherland, Mr Prentice, and others spoke as neighbors of Mr and Mrs Craig, referring to their kindliness at all times and in all circumstance..-;.
