HARRIERS

Caversham completed their season's activities by holding their annual walk to Waitati. This walk has always been a popular feature, and tho attendance was very gratifying. Tho route taken was that leading from the Norrnanby tram terminus through Bethune’s Gully and on to the Main North road, which was pursued as far as tho destination. The pack set off in three groups at intervals of about 500yds. Owing to the almost fierce heat of the sun and the extremely hard nature of tho road, which was in many places almost impassable on account of the bare metal strewn along it, the pack found the pace too strenuous, with tho result that, in spite of their best efforts, their pace gradually slackened till it was reduced to the level of a crawl. On their arrival the t.rampers were entertained at dinner by tho Club Committee at the Saratoga House, a most pleasant evening adding materially to tho enjoyment of the outing. St. Kilda held their sports meeting on Forbury track. The weather conditions were ideal, arid some close finishes wore witnessed. Results: —One mile : L. Dove 1, 11. Churchill 2, C. Wills 5, 440yds; L. Dove 1, A. M’Donald 2, W. Kilvcster 3. 161 b shot putt: A, Williams, 25ft llin, 1; G. Gibbs, 22ft 6in, 2; S. Gibbs, 21ft 2in, 3. Hop, step, and jump; 6. Gibbs, 31ft 9in, 1; A. Pacific held their 1,000 Yards Consolation Race at Forbury Park. Twelve competitors faced tho starter, Mr A. E. Grey, Tho limit men set a fast pace from tho outset. but when the 440yds mark was reached Miller (scr) had steadily reduced the load of the limit men, and was loading 220yds from the winning post. In a fast finish, however, tho scratch man failed to retain his advantage, and Crawford managed to breast the tape some 3yds ahead of Brown and Wilson, with the scratch man close up fourth. Result.: J. I). Crawford 1, F. Brown 2, S. Wilson 5; time, 3min 13sec. Tho following will represent the club in the mile relay race at the Otago Centre’s sports on Saturday, October 6:—A. Gibson, F.
