AUCKLAND, July 23. At the Police Court, John Buckley, aged twenty years, pleaded guilty to, and was committed for sentence for, the theft of a Chevrolet ckr valued at £2BO, the property of Mr Edwin Sayes, and for breaking arid entering a dwelling and stealing goods to the value of £7. On charges of stealing two bicycles he was remanded for sentence till dealt with by the Supreme Court on the other two charges. In a statement to the police accused said that a companion named Pittam, whom he met at the Borstal Institution, suggested that they should pull .off a big “ job,” and steal a launch, but accused favored a motor car. They tried several private garages, at Eerauera without avail, and the two made unsuccessful attempts to force the doors of two shops. On the night of July 2 Buckley saw Mr Sayes’s car in the street and took it, hiding it in the Domain. Ho removed the name and number plate and substituted another number. After riding round the city Buckley said that they went to see if any money could he stolon from the father of Pittam. However, Mr Pittam was in, so the son could not steal money from his father’s place as he intended. While Pittam was in the house Buckley got the car and drove all night and most of next morning till he found himself stuck in the mud at Rangiriri, and then he decided to return. Ho entered a house at Kohimararna and stole household articles, and subsequently hid the car in the Domain, where it was found, damage assessed at £25 having been done. Reynold Pittam, mentioned above, was committed for sentence for attempting to Break and enter the shop of Mr James Trubulovick, for the theft of a high tension wire and knife switch valued at 9s, and for the theft of four machinists’ > chisels.
