BURNEY SCHEME TAKING SHAPE. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 21. Commander Burney is negotiating with the British Government regarding an airship service to India, which will reduce the Australian mail time to two weeks. The Committee of Imperial Defence is now considering the financial terms of Commander Burney’s scheme. It is expected that finality will be reached early _ this year. As soon as Ole matter is decided, a company will be formed, ships 'built, and the service inaugurated within eighteen months. The present scheme embraces what Commander Burney calls the half-stage to India. If Australia gives financial support he hopes to arrange a bi-weekly service to India, together with a weekly extension to Australia, carrying mails, passengers, and produce.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
