AT OWAKA
RAILWAY LIKE WASHED AWAY. ' The Post Ollice received word this morning that it had been ruining incessantly throughout the district since 10 p.m. on Saturday, and lire river is in heavy ilood. Roads are impassable in many places and railway traffic suspended. Two bundled yards of railway lino washed away at Maleennan and several slips between ilonipnpa and Puketiro. Slips two chains long on railway at Hunt’s road, and tons ot rock on line between Houipapa and Tawanui. Several minor slips and washouts at oilier places. Postmaster at Ilatanui reports Ift of water in office, and will probably increase to 2ft at high tide*. No mail or road delivery service to-day, as contractor unable to get througlu btill raining. WAITAKI FACTORY FLOODED PLENTY OF BUTTER TO-MORROW. Mr S. Bowman, manager of the Waitald Dairy Company, said to a reporter this morning that he was very sorry if any of his clients were inconvenienced by tbs late delivery of butter to-day, and he hoped they would accept as a reasonable explanation the fact that there was 2ft of'water in the factory this morning. He ims made arrangements for an abundant supply to-morrow.
