■ The continued growth of trade to the west coast of South .America requires the substitution for present small shipping board vessels of freighters of greater tonnage capacity, according to Captain H. 11," Birkliolin, Seattle manager for Use General Steamship Corporation, operators of one of the services. The General Steamship Corporation now operates a fleet of five vessels from North Pacific ports to Peru and Chile, with occasional calls at Ecuador, and the capacity of these vessels is frequently insufficient'to accommodate the cargo offerings. The company would have these 5,000 deadweight tons vessels supplanted by ships of from 7,500 to 8,800 deadweight tone..
