PRINCESS MARY'S APPRECIATION. The ordinary monthly meeting of tho commileo of the Society for the Health of Women ami Children was held in tho I'hmkot Rooms yesterday. Present: Mrs Johnstone tin ili-J chair), Lady Ross, Me.-xlam.es Sidey, Thcomin, Sydney Neil!, Clapperlon, Herbert, Arundel, J. C. iPGeorgc, Isaacs, T. Brown, Jos. M'Gcorge, Carina It Jones, .O'Neill, Maude no, Callaway, Sister Nora, Miss Cow. Tho hon. treasurer presented the balancesheet for the year ended March 31 last. Tho President reported that Her Excellency Viscountess Jellicoe, accompanied by Airs Undo Pcrguson, visited the KarilancMarris Hospital on Thursday morning. Her Excellency was particularly interested in tho mothers’ cottage, which she considered tin excellent place, aiTording necessary rest for a mother with a young infant. She was also very glad to know of tho methods of nursing and caring for premature and delicate babies, the value of which was proved by the excellent results attained.

.Sir James Allen, High Commissioner for New Zealand, writing under date of February 14, advi-ecl the executive that, on bohalf of tho Royal Now Zealand Society for tho Health of Women and Children, a bound volume of tire society's publications had been forwarued by hand on the Bth inst. to Her Royal Highness Princess Mary, and enclosed in original tho letter received from the lady-in-waiting to Her Royal Highness in acknowledgment of tho gift. Tho lady-in-wait-ing writes: "I am desired by the Princess Mary to write and ask you to express to the president of tho Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children the very grateful thanks of Her Royal Highness for sending her such a beautifullybotind copy of tho book on the care of tho baby. Tho Princess much appreciated the kind thought of tho society in sending it to her.” The Matron of tho Karitanc-Harris Hospital .reported for month ended March 31: Number of patients admitted for treatment—mothers 8, babies 19; patients discharged—mothers 7, babies 9; patients in hospital—■ mothers 2, babies 19; largest number in hospital on any ono day—mothers 3, babies 21. Of the babies admitted one came from Shag Point, one from Kaitangata, one from Middleware!), one from Outrnm, one from Waipori, and five from Dunedin and suburbs. Of the mothers admitted, ono mother and twins came from Central Otago, ono mother and baby from Waikaka, ono mother and baby from Waikouaiti, one mother and baby from beaclilf, ono from Stoncburn, and one from Middlemarch. Nurses Lawer and Gray commenced a course of Blanket training) during tho month. Blanket Nurses Fleming, Golds tone, Stephenson, and Karitano Nurse Andrews look a post-graduate course at tho Karitanc-Harris Hospital during the month. Lectures were given during tho month by Drs Truby King, E. H. Williams, and S. B. Strain and Miss Pattrick. Tho end of term examinations for Plunkcfc and Karitano nurses were held on March 26 ami 23. There wro IGO visitors to the hospital during tho month, among whom wore Lady Philip, from Queensland, and several visitors from Canada and the United States of America, (lifts were received during the month from Mtsdames Fairbairn, Thcomin, Gallaway, Johnstone. Miss Reid, Mr Boyles, and tho Glemlinning Home. The Plunket nurses for North and Central Dunedin districts reported for the mouth : Number of babies on tho list, 525; babies breast-fed (including partly), 142; new cases for the, mouth (babies only), 19; babies breast-fed (new cases), 17; advice given to expectant mothers, 2; visits to homos, 305; visits to Plunket Rooms, Stuart street—adults 224, babies and children 192 (416); visits to Plunket Rooms, Ro-lyn—adults 80, babies and children 92 (172); number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Xaieri Dairy, 5,524.

The Plunkct nurse for Anderson Bay dis* trie I and out-stations reported Number of babies on the list, 147; babies breast-fed (including partly), 46; new cases for the month (babies only), 10: babies breast-fed (new cases), 9; visits paid to homes, 180; visits to Plunket Rooms, Stuart street, from ■Anderson Bay district—adults 46, babies io ;8i); visits to Plunket Rooms, Port Chalmers—adults 26, babies 23 (49); vi.dts to Plunket Rooms, Mosgicl—adults 25, babies £0 (45). The following visits were paid to out-stations;— ilosgiel 4, Port Chalmers 4, Kavensbourno 5, .St, Leonards 1, Abbotsford 4, Green Island 4, Burnside 4. Tbo Plunkct nurses reported that the general health of tho babies visited during tho month had been good. Colds were prevalent, but were not of a serious nature.
