Anderson slates that ho will bo available for tho Davis Cup team if a substitute for him in his business is provided by the association. The president of the Lawn Tennis Association states that it is impossible for tho association to provide a substitute, as it is outside the Davis Cup rules relating to amateurs. SWIMMING TOURNAMENT. MISS SI!AND A OOMPKITTOB. At the Municipal Tepid Baths on Tuesday and Thursday evenings next Dunedin people will have the opportunity of seeing Miss Shand, the noted lady swimmer. The Otago Centro of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association has been fortunate in securing this visit of Miss Khand, who has just returned from Australia after a very successful tour, and she will compete in interclub races each evening and also give exhibitions. Miss Minnie Jcpson (of Dunedin), tho New Zealand junior champion and holder of the New Zealand record for 59yds, has announced that she will attempt to break her own record on Tuesday evening, and, judging by her trial swim last Tuesday, she has every chance of doing so. Miss Kathleen Miller is expected to make a great race in the 100yds Schools’ Championship. In the Provincial Championships there is every promise of very close finishes in all the distances, and that popular event, the Otago Provincial Diving Championship, is sure to bo an attraction, seeing that Die New Zealand diving champion, 11. Walker, and the run-ner-up, 11. C. Caldcr, will be competing. The programme in general is a varied and interesting one, consisting of schools’ championships, interclub handicap, diving, and novelty events, and patrons will be sure of an attractive carnival.
