Tho first meeting of tho Anderson Bay Workers’ Educational Association class was held in the Presbyterian New Church Hall on Thursday evening, when a lecture was delivered by Professor Elder. This was the first of a course of lectures on ‘ History and Literature in Britain ’ from earliest times to the ago of Shakespeare. As a preliminary to the course, tho lecturer, in an able and interesting _manner, sketched Britain in prehistoric times, up to tho year 410 A.n., the discovery of tho Piltdown skull in Sussex, with tho theory, as built up by scientists, regarding tho manner of man to whom it belonged, and later discoveries of ancient remains and weapons. The stories of Ctesar and Tacitus. and the Roman occupation were also referred to. The lecturer was attentively listened to by the class, _ the members showing much interest in the subject and the able manner in which it was handled by Dr Elder. Mr M'Villy (General Manager of Railways) states that as long as tho Otira Tunnel is under the control of the Public Works Department it will be rim on the three section basis.
