Sir Gilbert Parker presided at a meeting of the Empire War Memorial League, which proposes a memorial, including tho clearance of several hundred acres of tho worst shun areas in Westminster and their transformation into a place of noble roads and palatial buildings, including an Empire avenue 120 ft wide, extending from Victoria railway station to Lambeth Bridge. Tho proposed buildings include an Imperial art gallery, Shakespeare memorial theatre, building for tho University of London, and a memorial shrine with sixty-nino chapels, which alono will cost a million and a-half sterling,—A. and N.Z. Cable.
