There is groat public interest in tho trial, a largo crowd waiting outside tho court, only a few of whom were admitted. Besides being charged with tho murder of Bertha Coughhm (whose body was found in tho river in February, having apparently been previously buried in various places and disinterred), an unexpected second charge of murdering some person unknown has been laid against Mitchell, who pleaded not guilty to both charges. Outlining the case, the Crown Pro. socutor said that it was not suggested that accused murdered two women, but possibly tho identity of the deceased ns Bertha Goughian might not be established.
