BUCKMAN-D'OISLY CONCERTS

FIRST NEXT SATURDAY. On Saturday next, at Fis Majesty’s Theatre, Miss Eosina Buckman and Mr Maorice D’Oisly will give the first of their three farewell Dunedin concerts under the direction of Mr E. J. Gravestock. The famous singers have just completed a tour of Australia, where no fewer than fifty concerts were given before audiences totalling nearly a hundred thousand people. Reporting the first concert in Brisbane, the * Courier ’ said- 1 " One could make use of a number of complimentary adjectives and still not adequately express one’s feelings concerning the first of Miss Rosina Buckman’s concerts in the Exhibition Hall last evening. It was a feast of music such as Brisbane has not had the opportunity of enjoying for a long time, and scenes of enthusiasm characterised the entire programme, In many ways it was an unforgettable concert, and must have a happy influence on the remainder of the season. Miss Buckman, whose personality and singing captured the musical enthusiasts of the Old World before she commenced a triumphal tour of the Southern Hemisphere, from which she hails, was in magnificent voice, and created a furore, Such ful dramatic vocalisation and exquisite treatment are rarely heard. Mr D’Oisly, who also has a fine platform appearance and manner, and sings with dramatic fervor and with a cultnred style, opened with ‘O, Paradise,’ from Meyerbeers ‘L’African a,’ and it was a splendid effort-—one of , the very finest ever beard- in Brisbane. This -number was given a great reception, and in response to a double encore he sang the aria from the last act of *La Tosca ’ as we have never heard it sung. He is undoubtedly the finest British tenor who has visited these parts.” At, the Dunedin concerts the famous singers will again be supported by Miss Adelina Leon, whom the Sydney ‘ Morning Herald' greeted as “ the foremost ’cellist of her sex ” j and i Mr Percy Kahn, whoso artistic accompaniments were a feature of the concerts given here last year. 'The box plans will be opened at The Bristol Piano Co. on Wed--1 need ay -^morning.
