DEATH BY POISONING.

YOUNG MAN'S SAD END. j George Wilford Williams, 24 years of age, , a motor van driver, living apart ’ from his wife, died in the Dunedin Hos- : pital late last night through poison selfadministered. It appears that Williams was living with his people at Nonnanby, and had been very despondent through being separated from his wife. Tho latter is living with a Mrs Brown at No. 20a Meadow street, Mornington, and Williams called at the house shortly after 10 o’clock last night. He appeared to bounder the influence of some powerful poison, and informed Mrs Brown that lie had taken strychnine. This lady im- ' mediately reported the matter to Constable Macartney, at the Mornington police station. The constable lost no time in reaching the house, where he found Williams in convulsions on the kitchen floor. Ho informed the constable also that ho had taken strychnine. The unfortunate man was removed to tho hospital without further delay. Ho was attended by Dr Perry, and everything possible was done to save his life, but ha expired half an hour after his admission. An inquest was held at the hospital at 10.15 a.m. to-day before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M. Tho evidence of Dr Perry showed that deceased had died as the result of taking strychnine. The case was practically hopeless from tho outset. After the evidence of the man’s father had been taken, the coroner returned a verdict to the effect that deceased committed suicide by taking strychnine while in a stale of temporary insanity.
