SWIMMING. A NEW ZEALAND RECORD. At a swimming carnival at Gisborne last evening W. Harris, Hawaiian champion, broke the New Zealand amateur record for 100yds, doing the distance, in 57isec, and lowering the record by 2|soo. Harris also swam 50yds in 25|sec. BOXING. A feature'of tho Edendale sports gathering was a challenge race over a mile for £SO a side between James Archer and H. G. M'Leod, ex-New Zealand champion. M'Leod made tho pace through mt, and they entered the straight iogether, when Archer drew away and won by 7yds.
