■ -*■ PLAYS OF SHAKESPEARE, To-night the distinguished actor-manager (Mr Allan Wilkie), with his talented company of thirty-five artists, headed by Miss Hilda Dorrington, commences a short season of Shakespeare’s plays in His Majesty’s Theatre. The play chosen for the opening night, 4 A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ is a happy one, and an enjoyable evening is. in store for the hig audience anticipated to visit the theatre to-night. Very numerous the the mirth-provoking situations throughout the Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ and especially in the scene in which the fairy queen Titania becomes enamored with Die rustic weaver Bottom, who is temporarily transformed! into an ass, and remains so until the jealousy of Oberon is appeased. The rustics provide endless merriment in the staging of the tragic life of Pyramus and Thisbe at the Athenian during the nuptial ceremonies of Algous and Hyppolyta, The programme tor the first six nights is advertised in another column; also the ■box plan arrangements, the day sale tickets for which are now available at Jacobs’s, tobacconist.
