COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY
A CALIFORNIAN DISCOVERY. BIG OPERATIONS REPORTED. Areas Association—By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, December 2. United States Secret Service men arrested a man who was formerly a resident of Los Angeles, for having in his possession a bag with 5.500 Bank of England notes, totalling £955,000. Tho Secret Service obtained information through the passing of £6.000 of counterfeit English currency in California. It is understood that a counterfeiting gang which is manufacturing spurious notes in the I nited States intended fo circulate them in the British dominions, since the police in. England reported that no attempt had been made to circulate counterfeits there. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
