SAN DEES CUP TRIALS

WINIFRED WINS THIRD TEST. A light south-easterly breeze prevailed for the third! trial to determine Otago's representative in the Sanders Clip tests at Auckland. The race was sailed over tile Ravensburne-Pen insula course, and a fluky wind was experienced on the Peninsula side. Eunice, which finished second, fouled the lower buoy at the half-distance, and was disqualified. In the beat up against the tide on the Eavensbourno side, Yalmaitook the lead, and, moving smartly, held it to the threelogs beacon, which she rounded first, Winifred following a few seconds later; thou Heather and blotia dose up, and Eunice, lona, and Agnes in that order. On the run down Winifred, 'talking the outside course-, ram into the lead. Heather also headed Valmai, and then Eunice* came up into second place. Judicious handling of spinnakers in tho quarterly wind was responsible for several changes of position among the competitors, as wore likewise tho erratic puffs of wind. Winifred rounded the lower mark about half _ a minute ahead of Eunice, Heather being a few seconds behind! tho latter, and the rest of the licet well up The yachts fetched back to til© three-legs in one long board. Winifred, holding the breeze well, improved her position, and led round the beacon, followed by -Eunice, Vnlmai, lona, Heather, and -Mona in that order, with Agnes bringing up the rear. In tho run to* the lino Vatmai lost ground. The official times were:— ’ Winifred, Hi oOmin sscc 4 points. lona, lh 32min 60sec ,2 points. Heather, Hi 32min 53sec 1 point. Eunice (disqualified), Hi 51 min 59scc; Yalmai, Hi 32mm 58sec; iMona, Hi. oomin oOsec ; Agnes, lh oOmin 45scc.
